মঙ্গলে কি প্রাণের অস্তিত্ব ছিল? এ প্রশ্ন ক্রমাগত তাড়িয়ে বেড়াচ্ছে বিজ্ঞানীদের। যেখানে দেখিবে ছাই, উড়াইয়া দেখো তাই-এর মতো করেই সূক্ষ্মাতিসূক্ষ্ম জিনিস পর্যালোচনা করে প্রাণের অস্তিত্ব নিয়ে গবেষণা চলছে। যন্ত্রপাতির এপার থেকে মঙ্গলের পৃষ্ঠে কড়া নজরদারি চালাচ্ছেন বিজ্ঞানীরা। আর তা করতে করতেই আশ্চর্য এক জিনিস চোখে পড়ল তাদের।

গোলাকৃতি একটা বস্তু। অনেকটাই কামানের গোলার মতো দেখতে। প্রায় হুবহু মিল। এ জিনিস মঙ্গলে এল কোথা থেকে? উত্তর খুঁজতে গিয়ে সাড়া পড়ে গেছে বিজ্ঞানীমহলে। এতে নানারকম ব্যাখ্যাও মিলছে।
বিশেষজ্ঞের ধারণা, কামানের গোলার মতো বস্তুটি আদতে যুদ্ধক্ষেত্রেরই কোনও সামগ্রী। সামান্য একটি বস্তু হলেও এর গায়েই লেগে আছে সভ্যতার স্পর্শ। ইউএফও সম্পর্কিত এক বিখ্যাত পত্রিকায় এ নিয়ে বিস্তর লেখালেখিও হচ্ছে।  

অনেকের ধারণা, এই বস্তুটি থাকার অর্থ মঙ্গলে প্রাণ ছিল তা নিশ্চিত। হয়তো মঙ্গলে কোনও বড় যুদ্ধ হয়েছিল। মহাকাশ থেকে মঙ্গলের উপর ভারী কোনও অস্ত্র বর্ষণ করা হয়েছিল। যার জেরে পুড়ে খাক হয়ে যায় গোটা গ্রহ। ধ্বংস হয়ে যায় বায়ুমণ্ডল। ফলে মুছে যায় প্রাণের অস্তিত্ব। তবে এ যদি সত্যিই কামানের গোলা হয়, তবে প্রাণ যে ছিল তা নিয়ে কোনও সন্দেহ নেই।

তবে এ নিয়ে খানিকটা তর্কও আছে। পাল্টা যুক্তি দিয়ে কেউ কেউ বলছেন, মানুষের তৈরি জিনিস হিসেবেই বা এটিকে গণ্য করা হচ্ছে কেন? হতেও তো পারে যে এটি প্রকৃতিরই খেয়ালে তৈরি কোনও বস্তু। বিচিত্র প্রকৃতিতে কত জিনিস যে তৈরি হয় তার ইয়ত্তা নেই।  

পৃথিবীতে কামানের গোলা বলে বস্তুটির অস্তিত্ব আছে। তাই সাদৃশ্য পেয়ে দু'য়ে দু'য়ে চার করে ফেলছেন বিজ্ঞানীরা। এ যুক্তি একেবারেই উড়িয়ে দিচ্ছে না বিজ্ঞানীমহলের একাংশ। তবে তাদের যুক্তি, বস্তুটি যেরকম নিখুঁত আকৃতির তাতে কারও হাতে তৈরি বলেই মনে হয়। প্রকৃতির খেয়ালে এত নিখুঁত বস্তু তৈরি হতে পারে, তা ঠিক মেনে নিতে পারছেন না অনেকে। আর তাই তাদের দৃঢ় বিশ্বাস, নিশ্চিতই এটি কোনও যুদ্ধের সামগ্রী। মঙ্গলের দিকে তাক করে তা ছোড়া হয়েছিল বাইরে থেকে। রীতিমতো বর্ষণ হয়েছিল এই বস্তুর। তার জেরেই মৃতগ্রহ হয়ে উঠেছে মঙ্গল।

তবে কামানের গোলা হোক বা না হোক, মঙ্গলে প্রাণের আশা ফের জাগিয়ে তুলেছে এই বস্তুটি। আপাতত এটিকে কামানের গোলা সদৃশ বস্তু হিসেবে ধরেই এগোচ্ছেন বিজ্ঞানীরা। এবার এটির নানারকম বিশ্লেষণ, পর্যবেক্ষণের মাধ্যমেই তার বয়স জানা যাবে।  

বিজ্ঞানীদের আশা, তাহলেই অন্তত বোঝা যাবে কত বছর আগে মঙ্গলে প্রাণের অস্তিত্ব ছিল। কীভাবেই বা তা ধ্বংস হল। বিজ্ঞানীমহলের কৌতূহল এখন এই একটি বস্তুকে কেন্দ্র করেই। যদি সামান্য গোলাকার জিনিসটিই গ্রহের রহস্য ভেদ করতে পারে, তবে তো কোনও কথাই নেই। তাই কামানের গোলা হোক বা হোক, বস্তুটিকে মোটেও খাটো নজরে দেখছেন না বিজ্ঞানীরা।
