এই ব্যাটারি তৈরির ধারণা প্রথমে আসে টুইটারে, যখন মি মাস্ককে সেখানে জিজ্ঞেস করা হয় যে দক্ষিণ অস্ট্রেলিয়ার বিদ্যুৎ সঙ্কট সমাধানের বিষয়টিকে তিনি কতোটা গুরুত্বের সাথে নিচ্ছেন।
মি. মাস্ক তখন জানান, যদি ১০০ দিনের মধ্যে এটি তৈরির কাজ শেষ না হয় তাহলে দক্ষিণ অস্ট্রেলিয়া রাজ্যে বিনা খরচে বিদ্যুৎ সরবরাহ করা হবে।
তারপর এটি তৈরির ক্ষণগণনা শুরু হয় ৩০শে সেপ্টেম্বর থেকে। রাজ্য সরকার থেকে এই পরিকল্পনার অনুমোদন হওয়ার পরই এটি তৈরির কাজ শুরু হয়।
কিন্তু টেসলা এই ব্যাটারি তৈরির কাজ শেষ করে ফেলে প্রায় ৬০ দিনের মধ্যেই। এই ব্যাটারিটি অবস্থিত জেমসটাউনের কাছে, অ্যাডেলেইড থেকে দুশো কিলোমিটার উত্তরে। এই ব্যাটারিটি সংযুক্ত একটি উইন্ডফার্মের সাথে। সেটি দিয়েই এই ব্যাটারি চলছে। ফরাসী একটি জ্বালানী কোম্পানি ওই ফার্মটি পরিচালনা করে।
