On the wedding night the bride's chastity was examined. This style is common in the Sanjarvat community of India. Three people from that group went to oppose this practice. The rest of the members got angry and beat up three people.
It is known that the three defendants run a group called 'Stop the Vi Richual' in WhatsApp. The main purpose of that group is to completely stop this custom made for women. Through this group they used to make people aware.
On the other hand, the Kanjwat group continues to perform some unnatural activities like checking the chastity of the bride and taking a bet on the wedding night. The group was set up on Sunday with Panchayet. But these three members do not attend the panchayat meeting at a wedding home.
On one hand, 40 members of the group, who were absent from the panchayat meeting on one hand and to make people aware about the chastity of women in social media, made them vulnerable to the three members on Sunday night.
Three of them later filed a complaint with the police against the 40 people of that group with the help of Maharashtra's Blind Empress Association. Based on the complaint, police arrested two people on Monday morning.
বিয়ের রাতেই কনের সতীত্ব পরীক্ষা করে দেখা হয়। ভারতের পুণের কঞ্জরভাট গোষ্ঠীতে এমন রীতিই প্রচলিত রয়েছে। এই রীতির বিরোধিতা করতে গিয়েছিলেন সেই গোষ্ঠীর তিন জন। আর তাতেই বাকি সদস্যরা রেগে গিয়ে তিন জনকে বেধরক মারধর করেন।
জানা গেছে, সেই তিন জন প্রতিবাদী হোয়াটসঅ্যাপে ‘স্টপ দ্য ভি রিচুয়াল’ নামে একটি গ্রুপ চালাতেন। সেই গ্রুপের মূল উদ্দেশ্য হল নারীদের জন্য তৈরি এই রীতিকে সম্পূর্ণভাবে বন্ধ করে দেওয়া। সেই গ্রুপের মাধ্যমেই তারা মানুষকে সচেতন করতেন।
অন্যদিকে কঞ্জরভাট গোষ্ঠী বিয়ের রাতে কনের সতীত্ব পরীক্ষা ও পণ নেওয়ার মতো কিছু অপ্রগতিশীল কাজকর্ম চালিয়ে নিয়ে যাচ্ছে। সেই নিয়েই রবিবার পঞ্চায়েত বসিয়েছিল এই গোষ্ঠী। কিন্তু এই তিন সদস্য পঞ্চায়েত সভায় উপস্থিত না থেকে একটি বিয়ে বাড়িতে যান।
এক দিকে পঞ্চায়েত সভায় অনুপস্থিতি আর অন্যদিকে সোশ্যাল মিডিয়ায় নারীদের সতীত্ব পরীক্ষা করে দেখার বিরুদ্ধে মানুষকে সচেতন করা, এই দু’টি কারণে গোষ্ঠীর ৪০ জন সদস্য রবিবার রাতে ওই তিন সদস্যকে বেধরক মারেন।
সেই তিন জন এরপরে মহারাষ্ট্র অন্ধশ্রদ্ধা নির্মূলন সমিতির সাহায্য নিয়ে ওই গোষ্ঠীর ৪০ জনের বিরুদ্ধে থানায় অভিযোগ দায়ের করেন। সেই অভিযোগের ভিত্তিতে সোমবার সকালে ২ জনকে গ্রেফতার করেছে পুলিশ।
