Jake drowned during a long struggle with frozen water. The film's director Cameron explained the death of Jack after 20 years. He told Vanity Fair magazine that Jack is dead because of the movie industry. It is not a physics that will run on the logic. Very simple.

Cameron also said Jack had died because on page 147 of the script, he was told that he would die.

  Of course it was a creative matter. Foolish to discuss such issues after 20 years of film release. But it proves that Jack got so much love from the audience that he did not want to see his death. If he had lived, the end of the movie would have become meaningless.

জাহাজ ডুবির পর যে ভাঙা দরজার পর রোজ আশ্রয় নেন তাতে অনায়াসে আরেকটি মানুষ উঠতে পারতো। কিন্তু জ্যাক তাতে ওঠেননি। হিমশীতল পানির সঙ্গে  দীর্ঘক্ষণ লড়াই করে জ্যাক ডুবে যায়। ২০ বছর পর জ্যাকের মৃত্যুর ব্যাখ্যা দিয়েছেন ছবিটির পরিচালক ক্যামেরন। ভ্যানিটি ফেয়ার সাময়িকীকে তিনি বলেছেন, জ্যাক মারা গেছে কারণ সিনেমা শিল্প। এটি কোনো পদার্থবিদ্যা নয় যে যুক্তির ওপর চলবে। খুবই সহজ।

ক্যামেরন আরও বলেন, জ্যাক মারা গেছে কারণ চিত্রনাট্যের ১৪৭ নম্বর পৃষ্ঠায় বলা ছিল যে, সে মারা যাবে।

  অবশ্যই এটি একটি সৃজনশীল ব্যাপার ছিল। সিনেমা মুক্তির ২০ বছর পর এসে এ ধরণের বিষয় নিয়ে আলোচনা করা বোকামি। কিন্তু এতে প্রমাণ হয় সিনেমার মাধ্যমে জ্যাক এতটাই দর্শকের ভালোবাসা পেয়েছিলেন যে তার মৃত্যু দেখতে চাননি তারা। যদি সে বেঁচে থাকত তাহলে সিনেমার শেষটা অর্থহীন হয়ে যেত।
