ঘরে বাসেই যারা ডায়ালাইসিস করে তাদের মধ্যে একজন সালেহা আক্তার। বিগত ৭ বছর ধরে তিনি কখনো পরিবারের সদস্যদের সহায়তায়, কখনো নিজেই করেন ডায়ালাইসিস। সময় লাগে মাত্র ত্রিশ মিনিট।
কিডনি বিকল হলে হাসপাতালে হিমো-ডায়ালাইসিস বা মেশিনে রক্ত পরিশোধন করতে সময় লাগে ৪ থেকে ৫ ঘন্টা। এর তুলনায় অনেক সহজ পদ্ধতি হলো পেরিটোনিয়াল ডায়ালাইসিস বা সিএপিডি। এতে রোগীর নাভির নিচে স্থায়ীভাবে একটি ক্যাথেটার বসানো হয়।
এরপর বাড়িতেই প্রতিবার ২ লিটার বিশেষ তরল ভরে পরিশোধন করা হয় রক্ত। ডায়ালাইসিসের সময় ঘরে-বাইরে যে কোনো কাজ করতে পারেন রোগী।
চিকিৎসকেরা বলেছেন, দেশে প্রায় ১৭ হাজার রোগী নির্ভর করছেন কিডনি ডায়ালাইসিসের ওপর। এর মধ্যে মাত্র ৬০০ মানুষ পেরিটোনিয়াল ডায়ালাইসিস করেন।
রোগীরা বলেছেন, আগে ডায়ালাইসিস করার সময় বুকে ব্যাথা লাগতো, কিন্তু এখন ব্যাথা পান না তারা।
হাসপাতালে হেমোডায়ালাইসিস করাতে প্রতিবার খরচ এক থেকে আট হাজার টাকা হলেও, ঘরে ডায়ালাইসিসের খরচ মাত্র সাড়ে ৪০০ টাকা। হৃদরোগীদের জন্য এই পদ্ধতি বেশি নিরাপদ।
কিডনি ফাউন্ডেশনের সভাপতি হারুন অর রশিদ বলেন, যারা এ রোগে ভুগে তারা অফিস করতে পারে না, ঘরে বসে গল্প-গুজবও করতে পারে না। তাদের জীবন ধরাবাধা হয়ে পড়ে।
দেশের সরকারি-বেসরকারি ১৬টি হাসপাতালেও রয়েছে সিএপিডি সুবিধা। তবে এর প্রসারে আপাতত কোনো পরিকল্পনা নেই স্বাস্থ্য অধিদপ্তরের।
স্বাস্থ্য অধিদপ্তরের (হাসপাতাল) পরিচালক কাজী জাহাঙ্গীর হোসেন বলেন, জেলাভিক্তিক ডায়ালাইসিস মেশিন ও আইসিইউ বসানো হবে। যা সব জেলাতে নাই। বাকিগুলোর কথা পরে চিন্তা করা হবে।
দেশে প্রায় দুই কোটি মানুষ কিডনি জটিলতায় ভুগছেন। কিডনি বিকল হলে মাত্র ২০ ভাগ রোগী পান ডায়ালাইসিসের সুবিধা। ব্যয়বহুল হওয়ায় সেবা না পেয়ে প্রতিবছর মারা যাচ্ছে ৩০ হাজার মানুষ।
